Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 9

For the first time this season, not a single team changed spots on this week's rankings. The top 3 schools, Boise State, SDSU and WSU have really begun to separate themselves as the class of the Pac12 this year. SDSU and Boise State both still have real chances to make the College Football Playoff, with their game against each other serving as a type of elimination game.  Boise State (#1 last week) Boise State stays in the number 1 spot after beating Nevada 24-3 on Friday night. While Boise State fans may have liked to see a more complete performance from the team, you can never complain about a conference road win. Boise State gets Fresno State at home this week before a massive game at SDSU on November 15th. SDSU (#2 last week) SDSU stays in the number 2 spot this week but has a real claim that they should be number 1 on the list. SDSU shut out Fresno State 23-0 to earn their 3rd shutout win of the season. Of all the schools on this list SDSU currently has the best chance to make...

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 8

There was no movement in the upper half of the Pac12 power rankings this week but we do see some movement in the lower half. Colorado State joins Oregon State as programs that will start the new era of the Pac12 with new head coaches. Texas State falls all the way to number 6 after falling to 3-4 on the season.  Boise State (#1 last week) Boise State stays in the number 1 spot after a dominant win against UNLV this week. With Memphis losing to UAB, if Boise State can continue to win they will give themselves another shot to make the College Football Playoffs. Boise State will play Nevada on Friday night before a big two game stretch where they will play Fresno State and SDSU.  SDSU (#2 last week) SDSU keeps its number 2 spot in this week's rankings coming off of their bye week. SDSU has a big time rivalry game against Fresno State this week. SDSU is also still in contention for a College Football Playoff spot if they can continue to win games. With a win this week it starts to...

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 7

There is a lot of movement especially in the top half of this week's power rankings. Boise State moves back into the number 1 spot for the first time since the preseason power rankings. Colorado State also gets itself out of the number 7 spot with a big win over Fresno State.  Boise State (#2 last week) Boise State moves back into the number 1 spot after starting the season in the number 1 spot. Boise State has earned the spot back after beating New Mexico 41-25. Boise State has a big time clash with UNLV for what will likely determine who will host the Mountain West championship game.  SDSU (#4 last week) SDSU moves into the number 2 spot after another dominant win this week. SDSU beat Nevada 44-10. SDSU looks poised to make a serious run at a Mountain West title. SDSU will have the week off before they play Fresno State next week. Sean Lewis has done a lot to turn around the program and it would be massive for the future Pac12 to have a real presence in Southern California....

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 6

This was not a good week for the Pac12 as far as results on the field. The Pac12 won just 2 games and one of those was a Pac12 vs Pac12 matchup. The silver lining is that Fresno State and SDSU both look really good and they look like they could be far ahead of schedule on their rebuilds. Fresno State and SDSU being good football schools in the new Pac12 is very important for the league so it has been good to see both schools with strong starts to the season.  Fresno State (#3 last week)  For the first time in a long time we have a new team in the number 1 spot! At one point early in the season I had Fresno State at number 8, wow really shows what I know! Other than the loss to Kansas earlier in the year Fresno State has looked very good. Fresno State will play Colorado State on Friday in a look at a future Pac12 matchup.  Boise State (#2 last week) Boise State stays at number 2 because I did not feel like a loss to Notre Dame meant they should move down. When I look at th...

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 5

I unfortunately did not release my Pac12 power rankings after week 4 of the season, but we are back and better than ever for this week's power rankings. It was a pretty quiet week for future Pac12 schools this week. The lone future Pac12 matchup saw WSU beat Colorado State 20-3 in Fort Collins. Boise State destroyed App State and is very close to overtaking Texas State for the number 1 spot in my power rankings.  Texas State  Texas State stays at number 1 with the bye week but Boise State is sharp on their heels. Texas State will travel to Arkansas State this week, Arkansas State does not appear to be a very good team this year. I would like to see Texas State come out and make a statement to the rest of the SBC that they are the team to beat.  Boise State  Boise State stays at number 2 this week but as each week passes Boise State makes more and more of a case for the number 1 spot. Boise State dismantled App State 47-14 last week. BSU will face a much tougher test ...

Key Takeaways from WSU's Apple Cup Loss

WSU fell to UW 59-24 in this year's Apple Cup. While the final result was a massive disappointment WSU kept the game competitive before allowing 28 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. It is a small consolation but outside of Ole Miss and maybe Virginia WSU shouldn't play a team with as much talent as UW had.  Zevi Eckhaus is QB1  While Zevi Eckhaus did have 3 turnovers (2 interceptions and a fumble) the offense looked the best it has this year with him commanding it. Jimmy Rogers seems to agree, as after the game he announced that Zevi Eckhaus would be the WSU starting QB for the rest of the season.  I believe that this is the correct decision. Zevi was under pressure all game but he threw for 277 yards, completed 26/37 pass attempts and had 3 total touchdowns. Zevi provides more with his legs than Jaxon Potter which keeps the defense a little bit more honest. He also seems to have the respect of the team which is also an important aspect of being QB1.  Defense Did...
