Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 11
SDSU (#1 last week)
SDSU stays in the number one spot this week despite a tough loss to Hawaii last week. The loss likely knocked SDSU out of a chance to make the College Football Playoff but SDSU still has plenty to play for this year and they still have a real chance to win 10 games. SDSU will host Boise State on Saturday night in a game where the winner will likely host the Mountain West championship game.
Fresno State (#2 last week)
Fresno State stays in the number two spot coming out of their bye week. Fresno State sits at 6-3 on the year and still has a real chance to play in the Mountain West championship game. Fresno State has made it through the toughest part of their schedule and closes the year with games against Wyoming, Utah State and SJSU.
Boise State (#3 last week)
Boise State is coming off of a much needed bye week coming off of a bad loss to Fresno State at home. Boise State has a massive game on Saturday night against SDSU, in what is a must win game for Boise State if they hope to play in the Mountain West championship game this year. Boise State will be without QB1 Maddux Madsen which depending on who you ask may or may not be a positive for Boise State.
Utah State (#5 last week)
Utah State moves into the top half of this week's rankings after a dominant 51-14 win over Nevada. Utah State now sits at 5-4 and is just one win away from becoming bowl eligible. They have probably the toughest stretch to end the season in the Mountain West with their final three games being against, UNLV, Fresno State and Boise State.
WSU (#4 last week)
WSU falls to the number 5 spot on the bye week in large part due to Utah State’s dominant performance. Some might argue that Utah State beat a bad Nevada team last week, but WSU had a chance to play a bad Oregon State team before the bye and did not take advantage. WSU has 3 games left and needs to win 2 games to become bowl eligible. They have a chance to get one win away with a win against Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
Texas State (#6 last week)
Texas State falls to 3-6 on the year after another terrible performance in Sun Belt play where they are yet to win a game this year. Texas State lost to Louisiana 42-39. This was the 5th game in a row where the Texas State defense gave up 30 points or more (yikes!!) Texas State will look to get back on track with a game against Southern Miss on Saturday. Texas State will need to win their remaining three games if they hope to become bowl eligible this year.
Colorado State (#8 last week)
It feels weird that Colorado State would move up in the power rankings after losing to UNLV 42-10, but that is more of a reflection of OSU’s loss to Sam Houston than anything Colorado State has done. Colorado State finds itself with a game against New Mexico this week, in a game where New Mexico is looking to stay in contention for the Mountain West championship game.
Oregon State (#7 last week)
Oregon State moves back down to the bottom spot after an ugly loss to a previously winless Sam Houston team. It felt like the Beavers were starting to build some momentum after rattling off two wins in a row, but all of that momentum feels lost after a 21-17 loss to Sam Houston. This season can not end quickly enough for OSU fans. They have a game this week against Tulsa, before closing their season with a return game in Pullman against WSU.
