Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 7
There is a lot of movement especially in the top half of this week's power rankings. Boise State moves back into the number 1 spot for the first time since the preseason power rankings. Colorado State also gets itself out of the number 7 spot with a big win over Fresno State.
Boise State (#2 last week)
Boise State moves back into the number 1 spot after starting the season in the number 1 spot. Boise State has earned the spot back after beating New Mexico 41-25. Boise State has a big time clash with UNLV for what will likely determine who will host the Mountain West championship game.
SDSU (#4 last week)
SDSU moves into the number 2 spot after another dominant win this week. SDSU beat Nevada 44-10. SDSU looks poised to make a serious run at a Mountain West title. SDSU will have the week off before they play Fresno State next week. Sean Lewis has done a lot to turn around the program and it would be massive for the future Pac12 to have a real presence in Southern California.
WSU (#3 last week)
WSU stays at number 3 on the list after losing to Ole Miss 24-21. While there is no such thing as moral victories in college football, this felt like a huge step in the right direction for the Cougs. WSU will again travel across the country this week as they take on Virginia on Saturday. This will be another tough test on the road against a ranked opponent.
Fresno State (#1 last week)
Fresno State had just a one week stint at the number 1 spot. They dropped all the way to number 4 after losing 49-21 to Colorado State. This felt like a game that Fresno State wouldn't lose and not only did they lose but they really did not look very good at all. Fresno State will get a bye week before hosting SDSU in what will be another tough test.
Texas State (#5 last week)
WOW! Texas State had another disappointing loss, this time losing 48-41 to Troy in overtime. Texas State had remained steady at number 1 in these power rankings for the first couple weeks of the season, but it is clear that they are not that team this year. Texas State is now 3-3 and looks to get back on track with a game against Marshall.
Colorado State (#7 last week)
Colorado State jumps up to number 6 after beating Fresno State 49-21 on Saturday. Going into this week I truly thought that Jay Norvell had a better chance of being fired by week's end than Trent Bray. Shows what I know and Jay should get a ton of credit for turning it around this week and really taking it to Fresno State. Colorado State has a real chance to continue the momentum this week as they host Hawaii on Saturday.
Utah State (#6 last week)
Utah State drops to number 7 after a tough loss to Hawaii at Hawaii. Utah State had an uphill battle with bad travel this week, but it felt like it would have been a really big win for the program. I still think Bronco Mendenhall has USU well ahead of schedule on the re-build and making a bowl game this year would count as a very successful season.
Oregon State (#8 last week)
Oregon State remains at number 8 on the list after another embarrassing loss. Last week Oregon State was destroyed by Wake Forest to move to 0-7 on the year. The potentially positive news for Oregon State fans? After the game, Trent Bray was fired. While Trent Bray certainly hasn't been the only problem in Corvallis, this will give OSU a chance to make an exciting hire before the new era of the Pac12 kicks off next year.
