Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 8
There was no movement in the upper half of the Pac12 power rankings this week but we do see some movement in the lower half. Colorado State joins Oregon State as programs that will start the new era of the Pac12 with new head coaches. Texas State falls all the way to number 6 after falling to 3-4 on the season.
Boise State (#1 last week)
Boise State stays in the number 1 spot after a dominant win against UNLV this week. With Memphis losing to UAB, if Boise State can continue to win they will give themselves another shot to make the College Football Playoffs. Boise State will play Nevada on Friday night before a big two game stretch where they will play Fresno State and SDSU.
SDSU (#2 last week)
SDSU keeps its number 2 spot in this week's rankings coming off of their bye week. SDSU has a big time rivalry game against Fresno State this week. SDSU is also still in contention for a College Football Playoff spot if they can continue to win games. With a win this week it starts to almost feel likely that SDSU can get to 10 wins this year.
WSU (#3 last week)
For the second week in a row WSU goes on the road against a top 20 opponent as a multiple touchdown underdog and loses by less than 3 points. While the 22-20 loss was certainly a disappointing result for the Cougs, the fact that they have been able to hang against these teams on the road is a promising sign for the Jimmy Rogers era.
Fresno State (#4 last week)
Fresno State stays in the number 4 spot coming out of their bye week. Fresno State has a massive two game stretch with a game against SDSU this weekend and then a game against Boise State the week after. Finding a way to go 1-1 over the next two weeks would be a big accomplishment for Fresno State and first year head coach Matt Entz.
Utah State (#7 last week)
Utah State moves up to the number 5 spot in this week's rankings after beating SJSU in a Friday night game. The Utah State defense gave up a ton of yards but found ways to get stops, especially late in the game. Utah State will play New Mexico in a game that should have a lot of juice to it. Utah State Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall came to Utah State this season after being the head coach at New Mexico last year. It should be a fun game that will mean a lot to both programs.
Texas State (#5 last week)
Wow, it is kind of hard to believe that Texas State was at the top of these rankings at one point and I thought they had a shot to win 10 games this season. Texas State is now 3-4 and has not won a single Sun Belt Conference game. Texas State has a much needed bye week before facing off with a very good JMU team in a Tuesday matchup.
Colorado State (#6 last week)
Colorado State moves back to the number 7 after suffering a home loss to Hawaii. The loss was the last straw for the Colorado State administration as head coach Jay Norvell was fired after the game. Colorado joins Oregon State as 2 Pac12 teams that will have new head coaches heading into Pac12 play in 2026. Colorado State has a chance to get back on track this week with a rivalry game against Wyoming.
Oregon State (#8 last week)
Oregon State stays in the number 8 spot this week, but the good news is that they are no longer winless! Oregon State trailed FCS school Lafayette 13-10 at halftime and looked poised to drop another winnable game. To Oregon State’s credit they did not allow Lafayette to score in the second half as they cruised to a 45-13 victory. Oregon State gets a much needed bye week before playing the first of two games against WSU on November 1st.
