Key Takeaways from WSU's Apple Cup Loss

WSU fell to UW 59-24 in this year's Apple Cup. While the final result was a massive disappointment WSU kept the game competitive before allowing 28 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. It is a small consolation but outside of Ole Miss and maybe Virginia WSU shouldn't play a team with as much talent as UW had.  Zevi Eckhaus is QB1  While Zevi Eckhaus did have 3 turnovers (2 interceptions and a fumble) the offense looked the best it has this year with him commanding it. Jimmy Rogers seems to agree, as after the game he announced that Zevi Eckhaus would be the WSU starting QB for the rest of the season.  I believe that this is the correct decision. Zevi was under pressure all game but he threw for 277 yards, completed 26/37 pass attempts and had 3 total touchdowns. Zevi provides more with his legs than Jaxon Potter which keeps the defense a little bit more honest. He also seems to have the respect of the team which is also an important aspect of being QB1.  Defense Did...

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 3

Week three of the college football season has wrapped up and the Pac12 had an interesting week. With 3 teams on a bye and bad losses from the Pac2 schools there is definitely some movement in the power rankings this week. Utah State wins the award for most impressive Pac12 team this week!  #1 Texas State (#1 last week)  Texas State retains its number one spot even with the loss to what I think is a really good ASU team. Texas State still sits at 2-1 and I still think that they could win 10 games this season. Definitely less room for error from here on for Texas State though.  #2 Boise State (#2 last week)  Boise State stays in the number 2 spot after they had their bye week last week. Boise State should face a pretty good test this week with an away game at Air Force. A win this week would be nice for Boise State as they do not play another MW conference game until October 11th.   #3 Fresno State (#4 last week) Fresno State moves up the number 3 spot after ...

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 2

Week 2 of the season has wrapped up and Pac12 teams had a pretty good week overall. Teams are starting to settle into who they will be for the rest of the season, but that is not to say there has not been some big moves in the power rankings this week (looking at you Fresno State!).  Texas State (#1 last week) Texas State maintains its spot at number 1 this week after beating rival UTSA 43-36. While any rival win is a good win regardless of the score there has to be some concern about the Texas State defense. Allowing 27 points to Eastern Michigan and then 36 points to UTSA is not a great way for the defense to start the year. Texas State has a massive game against ASU next week, a win could put them in contention to win at least 10 games this season.  Boise State (#2 last week) This was a game where you just felt Boise State had to send a message after losing to USF in week 1. The USF loss aged pretty well however after USF went into UF and came home with a win. Boise State b...

Takeaways From WSU Football's Win Over SDSU

WSU Football beat future Pac12 foe SDSU 36-13 on Saturday night to improve to 2-0 in the Jimmy Rogers era! The Cougs looked like a much improved team this week after squeaking past Idaho in week 1. Below are some of my key takeaways from last night's game.  The Run Game Was Much Improved  After WSU rushed for just 3 yards against FCS opponent Idaho last week there were rightfully a lot of concerns about the O-line and the run game. WSU put a lot of those fears to rest against SDSU rushing for 139 yards this week. The O-line is also yet to allow a sack this year! Kirby Vorhees and Angel Johnson also looked a lot more patient in the run game waiting for holes to open up. Leo Pulalasi also got more touches than he did in week 1 and he rushed for 30 yards on just 5 carries.  Coming into the game the SDSU D-line was seen as a big test for the Cougs O-line. I would say the Cougs passed the test with flying colors, and you have to be feeling more confident about the next 10 game...

Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 1

Week 1 of college football is in the books and wow was it an interesting week for future Pac12 schools. In all transparency this week's rankings will be pretty reactionary based on what we saw in week 1. The teams I had in my top 3 heading into the season (BSU, OSU and WSU) did not look great in week 1 leaving room for some teams to jump ahead of them.  Texas State (#7 last week)  Texas State had the most impressive win of week 1 for any Pac12 school. They destroyed Eastern Michigan by a score of 52-27. While the offense looked unstoppable, definitely some room for improvement on the defensive side of the ball. Texas State has a huge rivalry game against rival UTSA this week but with a win over UTSA Texas should be on its way to at least an 8+ win season.  Boise State (#1 last week)  Boise State only drops one spot after a tough defeat against USF. While Boise State certainly didn't look great I am willing to give them another week to figure it out. A cross country g...
