Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 3

Week three of the college football season has wrapped up and the Pac12 had an interesting week. With 3 teams on a bye and bad losses from the Pac2 schools there is definitely some movement in the power rankings this week. Utah State wins the award for most impressive Pac12 team this week!

#1 Texas State (#1 last week)

Texas State retains its number one spot even with the loss to what I think is a really good ASU team. Texas State still sits at 2-1 and I still think that they could win 10 games this season. Definitely less room for error from here on for Texas State though.

#2 Boise State (#2 last week)

Boise State stays in the number 2 spot after they had their bye week last week. Boise State should face a pretty good test this week with an away game at Air Force. A win this week would be nice for Boise State as they do not play another MW conference game until October 11th.

#3 Fresno State (#4 last week)

Fresno State moves up the number 3 spot after being at number 8 just a few weeks ago (shows what I know!). Fresno State is in a great spot heading into a tough game at Hawaii this week. No matter how good or bad Hawaii is, the travel to the island is always tough.

#4 Utah State (#6 last week)

Utah State continues to impress to start the Bronco Mendenhall era! Utah State dropped 49 points last week in a home victory over Air Force. Utah State plays McNeese State who is not a very good football team. If Utah State can stay focused and win this week they would be 3-1 going into a big game against a ranked Vandy team next week.

#5 Colorado State (#5 last week)

Colorado State keeps its place at number 5 after having a bye week last week. Colorado State has a week 4 matchup with UTSA. After a shaky game against Northern Colorado in week two, this is a must win game for Colorado State. I have to think Jay Norvell’s seat could be getting pretty warm with a loss this week.

#6 WSU (#3 last week)

WSU drops to #6 this week after a terrible performance against UNT last week. The only reason WSU is not at number 8 this week is because Oregon State has had an all time bad start to the season. And WSU stays ahead of SDSU because they just beat them 1 week ago. WSU faces a tough test in Pullman this weekend with UW coming to town.

#7 SDSU (#7 last week)

SDSU stays at number 7 coming off the bye week. SDSU has an absolutely massive home game against Cal this week. A win for SDSU this week could be the start of SDSU building some momentum for the football program. A loss this week would put SDSU at 1-2 and SDSU fans will be even more unhappy with Sean Lewis than they already are.

#8 Oregon State (#8 last week)

Oregon State stays at number 8 this week after a horrible performance at Texas Tech last week. The road forward certainly does not get any easier for Oregon State as they have an away game at UO this week. This is not where most people thought Oregon State would be when the season started.

Looking ahead, this week is rivalry week for the Pac2. Both schools are heavy underdogs against their in-state rivals. SDSU also has a big game against in-state foe Cal. This truly does feel like a massive chance for Sean Lewis to build momentum in San Diego.
