WSU Basketball Has Some Recruiting Advantages
The biggest selling point is that the Cougs are going to be playing in the Maui Invitational next season. The Maui Invitational is one of college basketball’s most-watched non-conference events, meaning players will have the opportunity to get lots of eyeballs watching them. While the tournament field isn't as stacked this year as it has been in years past, it also gives players the opportunity to play against high level competition.
Another good selling point is the strength of schedule the Cougs will likely put together next season. Home games against UW and Nevada should draw good crowds, home games against Gonzaga and Saint Marys will as well. A game against a great mid major program in Bradley and I would presume the yearly game against Boise State will continue as well. This has the makings of one of the best schedules in the county outside of the Big10, Big12, ACC, SEC and Big East. It is also possible that the Cougs could schedule a game with future PAC12 opponents such as SDSU, Colorado State or Utah State.
While most players only stay at a school for a year or two, another major selling point is that WSU is going to be in the reimagined PAC12 in 2026-2027. The conference is projected to be one of the top five basketball conferences in the country which could be used as a tool to sell recruits.
Lastly, while the Cougs don't have SEC level NIL money there is still some to offer to new recruits. This should help close the deal for some of the players WSU is reportedly targeting.
With strong selling points like national exposure, a competitive schedule, and a rising conference profile, WSU is positioned to land impact transfers and build a team ready to compete at a high level in the WCC next season.
