Pac12 Power Rankings After Week 5

I unfortunately did not release my Pac12 power rankings after week 4 of the season, but we are back and better than ever for this week's power rankings. It was a pretty quiet week for future Pac12 schools this week. The lone future Pac12 matchup saw WSU beat Colorado State 20-3 in Fort Collins. Boise State destroyed App State and is very close to overtaking Texas State for the number 1 spot in my power rankings.

  1. Texas State

Texas State stays at number 1 with the bye week but Boise State is sharp on their heels. Texas State will travel to Arkansas State this week, Arkansas State does not appear to be a very good team this year. I would like to see Texas State come out and make a statement to the rest of the SBC that they are the team to beat.

  1. Boise State

Boise State stays at number 2 this week but as each week passes Boise State makes more and more of a case for the number 1 spot. Boise State dismantled App State 47-14 last week. BSU will face a much tougher test this week as they head to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. If Boise State can find a way to win this game they would instantly find themselves back in the College Football Playoff discussion. Needless to say this is a massive game for Boise State this weekend.

  1. Fresno State

Fresno State is coming off of a bye week, but remains solidly in the top half of this week's power rankings. Fresno State has shown to be an extremely solid team this year. So far it appears that the rebuild is well ahead of schedule. Fresno State will take on Nevada this week at home. This is a game that you would expect Fresno State to come out and take control of the game early and cruise to a comfortable victory.

  1. WSU

WSU moves up into the top half of the power rankings mostly due to the fact that they are 2-0 against future Pac12 opponents. WSU is ahead of SDSU due to the head to head win. WSU beat Colorado State 20-3 in Fort Collins last week to improve to 3-2 on the season. WSU gets a much needed bye week before playing arguably its toughest game of the season away at Ole Miss on October 11th.

  1. SDSU

SDSU beat Northern Illinois 6-3 to improve to 3-1 on the year. That is 2 extremely positive results in a row, and very notable that the defense has allowed just 3 points in the last 2 games. Dare I say SDSU may be starting to turn a corner? It feels like the program is finally starting to build some very positive momentum. It will be interesting to see if SDSU can continue their positive momentum against Colorado State on Friday.

  1. Utah State

Utah State lost 55-35 to Vanderbilt on Saturday. This was a game that I actually thought Utah State had an outside shot of pulling off an upset in but it was not meant to be. I remain impressed with the first year of the Bronco Mendenhall era despite the less than stellar defensive play. Utah State will have a week to get rested up before traveling to Hawaii on October 11th.

  1. Colorado State

Colorado State lands at number 7 on this list but only because Oregon State has been worse. Make no mistake about it, this has not been a good start to the season for Jay Norvell and Colorado State. I thought Jay Norvell’s seat was warming up before the season started but as each game passes it gets harder and harder to see how he is the coach for Colorado State to start the 2026 season. Colorado State will travel to SDSU for a Friday night clash that is a must win game for CSU.

  1. Oregon State

Oregon State maintains its spot in last place in this week's power rankings. Oregon State has had a nightmare year starting the season 0-5 and having some comical special teams mistakes. I thought that this would be the week we saw some changes to the Oregon State coaching staff but as of this writing no changes have been announced. Oregon State looks to bounce back with a game at App State this week. App State played Boise State in Boise last week and got smoked. This seems like as good of a chance as any for Oregon State to secure its first win of the year.
