Takeaways From WSU Football's Win over U of I

WSU pulled out a 13-10 win over the University of Idaho last night. The game never felt comfortable for WSU but WSU did what needed to be done to start the season 1-0 and avoid an embarrassing loss to an FCS school to start the season. There were a lot of different takeaways from the battle of the palouse, we will talk about some of them here.  Quarterback   Perhaps the most surprising thing from game number one was the fact that Jaxon Potter got the start at quarterback for WSU. Zevi Eckhaus was believed by many to be the frontrunner heading into the season, so there was some surprise when Jaxon Potter ran out to take the first offensive snap of the season for WSU.  Potter had a rough first two drives of the game but seemed to settle into the game after that. Potter ended the game completing 23/30 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown. Most importantly Potter had zero turnovers which is something that defensive minded head coach Jimmy Rogers will really appreciate....

My 2025 WSU Football Record Prediction

I n this article I am going to give my 2025 record prediction. This is always a tough one to do, especially with a first year head coach and a completely overhauled roster. While I hope the team goes 12-0 and I am hoping I am wrong these are my predictions before the season starts. The new era of college sports with player and coach movement makes it so much harder to project teams before the season starts.  Game 1 WSU vs Idaho (WIN)  Idaho has been a really good football team over the last few years. It feels very lucky that Jason Eck left Idaho for New Mexico this offseason. He almost pulled off an upset of Oregon last year and almost beat the Cougs in the season opener in 2022. I think this year's game will start off with the Cougs working out some early kinks before sailing to a 2 score victory.  Game 2 WSU vs SDSU (WIN) This is a sneaky interesting game on the WSU schedule. A matchup with a future Pac12 foe, I think this game will be just as competitive as last year....

Pac12 Power Rankings Heading Into The Season

This is the start of a season long series where I will be power ranking each team at the end of each week. While not all the schools are playing in the same conference right now, it makes the power ranking more interesting and leaves more room for debate!  Boise State  While Boise State lost a lot of talent from last year's College Football Playoff team, they still return a lot of players from last year's team. They are a top contender to win the Mountain West title again this season. Replacing the star power of Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty is no easy feat but the number one spot is Boise State’s to lose heading into the season.  Oregon State  It is no secret that Oregon State had a disappointing season under first year head coach Trent Bray last year. Getting Maalik Murphy at QB is going to be a big step forward for Oregon State this season. While Oregon State plays an extremely competitive schedule this year, they should be very competitive and I expect th...

WSU Men's Basketball Releases Strong Non-Conference Schedule

WSU men's basketball recently released the non-conference schedule for the 2025-2026 basketball season. In this post I will be using Bart Torvik’s preseason rankings when talking about teams preseason projections. Obviously these are just preseason rankings and should be taken with a grain of salt but it is a good way to measure where each team is heading into the season.  The Cougs will open up the season with a home rivalry game against Idaho. They will then travel to play an away game against Davidson. An away game against Davidson should be a really good test for this team, Bart Torvik has Davidson ranked at number 161 heading into the season. While this number shows them to be a middle of the road mid major, a cross country away game to start the season certainly presents a unique challenge.  The next big test on the schedule comes with a November 14th home game against UW. Unfortunately UW projects to be a much improved basketball team this year. Bart Torvik has them ra...

WSU’s 4-Way QB Battle Continues

WSU’s 4-Way QB Battle Continues  As fall football camp wrapped up WSU football head coach Jimmy Rogers declined to publicly name a starting quarterback. When asked how close he was to determining a starting quarterback Rogers said “It's getting closer and closer but you guys won’t know, I'll never tell you, you're going to see it on gameday.” If Rogers has his way, nobody outside of the WSU team will know who the starter is until they run out to take the first offensive snap of the season. So who are the four QBs competing for the job? Let's take a closer look at the 4 QBs battling for the starting job. Zevi Eckhaus  Eckhaus transferred to WSU from Bryant last season and after a competitive battle he lost out on the starting QB1 spot to John Mateer. Eckhaus was widely believed to be a shoe-in for the starting job before the staff brought in Power 5 transfers Julian Dugger and Ajani Sheppard. Eckhaus is still probably the favorite to be the starter against Idaho given hi...

Meet WSU’s 21 Non-SDSU Transfers

Meet WSU’s 21 Non-SDSU Transfers The Cougs had 37 total transfers into the program this offseason. 21 of these transfers came from a school other than South Dakota State. The last post got you familiar with the 16 South Dakota State transfers, this one will get you familiar with the 21 other transfers.  Julian Dugger QB (PITT) Dugger comes to WSU as a redshirt freshman after spending his redshirt season at PITT last year. Duggar came in during PITTs bowl game against Toledo and looked impressive. He is a true dual threat and has a lot of upside. He is currently in a 4 way QB battle, but if he does not win the job I would still expect to see him get some snaps this year similar to how John Mateer did when he backed up Cam Ward.  Mike Sandjo DT (SMU) Sandjo comes to WSU as a redshirt senior after spending the last three seasons at SMU. He played in five games last year for an SMU team that made it to the college football playoffs Sandjo projects as someone who could work his way...
